On Saturday 24th March we took over the Rock Inn pub in Brighton for our first live event – a Victoriana Extravaganza. Featuring performance artists, circus performers, stilt walkers, animation installations and steampunk sculptures courtesy of Circus Kinetica, the event was a roaring success, especially as many of our guests got into the Dickensian spirit and arrived in full costume!

In the basement, interactive performers accompanied guests on an exploration of a surreal maze – they discovered a workshop for repairing broken dolls manned by a sinister human mannequin; a young man with hand-written letters spilling from his pockets; and a rag lady who may offer to tell you your fortune – if you dare to approach her…

The basement bar offered respite from these adventures, and visitors could take in clips from classic animations by Svankmeyer, the Brothers Quay, Burton and the Bolex Brothers.

Up in the attic, a harlequin,  a mad ballet dancer, a human marionette and her ring-leader master invited guests to enter their dark Victorian world and treated visitors to personal performances in a set designed and dressed by Circus Kinetica.

We had some fantastic feedback on the night and are already planning out next event for August – which is going to be bigger and better than ever!

A huge thank-you to everyone who came down and made it such a spectacular night! All profits from ticket sales are going towards creating the short film, so we really couldn’t do it without you!
